Gilfach Goch is a community electoral ward and small former coal mining village mostly in the Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, near the larger community of Tonyrefail.  Some areas in the North Western part of the village lies within Bridgend County Borough.

It is situated in the Cwm Ogwr Fach (Small Ogmore Valley) between the  (Large Ogmore Valley) to the west and the Cwm Rhondda (Rhondda Valley) to the east.

Gilfach Goch Rugby Football Club is a rugby union team from the village of Gilfach Goch.  Gilfach Goch RFC was established in 1889, has been a member of the Welsh Rugby Union since 1956 and is a feeder club for the Cardiff Blues.   

Gilfach Goch RFC currently play in the WRU Division Two East Central league.

The clubhouse, in High Street Gilfach Goch, has been the club's base for over the past 50+ years. Gilfach Goch RFC is a community club, and has over 170 players currently involved in teams run by the club. These roots are continually developing, especially with the development of the Mini & Junior section of the club. The club currently runs the following teams :- 1st XV,  Youth XV Mini & Junior rugby teams from Under 6's up to Youth.

We have created a heritage that has achieved and continues to succeed at all levels. But despite our progress Gilfach Goch RFC still boasts a purely amateur philosophy. We rely our ingenuity and a dedicated band of likeminded sponsors and supporters who are all proud of what we have accomplished, We are a family club with a desire and commitment to adults, children and the locality.
